Spotlight on the Dyslexia Achievement Center: Empowering Learners Across Milwaukee

We’re pleased to highlight the Dyslexia Achievement Center (DAC), a Milwaukee-area learning center dedicated to supporting children, teens, and adults who struggle with reading, writing, spelling, and math. Through individualized intervention, early screening, assessments, and additional services, including occupational and speech therapy, their team provides targeted support grounded in structured, multisensory methods. Their interventionists are currently completing practicum training and applying their skills with dedication and care. As partners, we share a commitment to strengthening literacy outcomes, building student confidence, and ensuring that every learner has access to the tools and instruction they need to thrive.

Our team sat down with the owner of Dyslexia Achievement Center, Nicole Boyington, to learn more about the outreach and support that DAC provides to children in Milwaukee and beyond.

Q:  What is the mission of the Dyslexia Achievement Center?

A:  The mission of Dyslexia Achievement Center is to provide dyslexia intervention and complementary services throughout a person’s lifespan which help them become independent in their academic endeavors.

Q:  What services do you provide?

A:  We provide individualized structured literacy instruction as well as occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Q:  What qualifications are you looking for in tutors?

A:  We look for tutors who are passionate about literacy and have experience working with children, especially those who learn differently. Many of our interventionists come from backgrounds in education or related fields, but we offer comprehensive training to ensure our interventionists can meet the needs of our students.

Q:  What stood out to you about Slant System™ that was different from other training, and what led you to training your tutors in the Slant System™?

A:  We chose the Slant System™ because we wanted a structured, systematic, and multisensory approach that aligns with the Science of Reading and is specifically designed for students with dyslexia. We were looking for a program that offered clear, consistent methodology, built-in progress monitoring, and strong support for both tutors and students. The Slant System™ met all of these needs while providing a practical framework for delivering high-quality literacy intervention.

The Slant System provides interventionists with both the knowledge and the tools they need to be effective.  We love how easy the materials are to use and that the training is very engaging.

Q.  How are tutors trained in the Slant System™ positively impacting the students you work with?

A:  Our tutors trained in the Slant System are seeing students make measurable, meaningful progress. The structure of the program helps students build skills in a logical sequence, which boosts their confidence and accelerates their growth. We’ve seen students who were once frustrated or resistant to reading begin to thrive, developing not only stronger literacy skills but also a renewed sense of self-belief.

Q.  How does your impact help the community of Milwaukee?

A:  By providing high-quality structured literacy intervention, we’re addressing a critical need in the Milwaukee area. Early and effective intervention helps students become successful, confident learners, which has a ripple effect throughout the community, improving academic outcomes, reducing future educational gaps, and empowering families. We’re proud to contribute to creating more equitable educational opportunities for all learners.

Q.  What type of community outreach do you provide?

A:  Beyond direct intervention, we’re committed to community education and outreach. One way we do this is through our podcast, where we share practical tips, insights, and conversations with experts to support parents, educators, and anyone working with neurodiverse learners. We also offer workshops, school collaborations, and parent information sessions to spread awareness about dyslexia and effective literacy instruction.

About Our Partnership

Classmates Educational Group (CEG) is proud to partner with the Dyslexia Achievement Center to expand access to high-quality structured literacy intervention in the Milwaukee area. By training DAC interventionists in the Slant System™, we’re working together to ensure that students receive consistent, research-aligned instruction that meets their individual needs. This collaboration strengthens the support available to learners with dyslexia, equips tutors with a unified instructional framework, and reinforces both organizations’ shared commitment to helping students build the skills and confidence necessary for long-term academic success. Through this partnership, we aim to create more opportunities for effective, equitable literacy instruction across the community.
