Get Hands-On Experience and One-on-One Coaching With Our Practicum Program

The Slant System™ Practicum is the final and most immersive step toward becoming a certified Slant System™ Structured Literacy and Dyslexia Specialist. This year-long, guided experience is designed to ensure that educators can confidently apply the principles of structured literacy with integrity and precision.

While the Practicum is typically taken alongside our Structured Literacy Advanced Training, it may also be completed within 24 months of finishing that course. Scheduling is flexible and arranged individually based on the availability of the enrollee and their assigned Slant System™ coach.

What sets our practicum apart is its strong emphasis on helping educators become truly diagnostic and prescriptive, a critical skill when working with struggling readers and students with dyslexia. Through live, in-the-moment, coaching and observations, participants learn how to interpret student data, identify specific skill deficits, and adjust instruction responsively. Teachers learn to make informed decisions in real time, reteaching, scaffolding, and accelerating as needed to meet the individual needs of each learner. This level of instructional responsiveness is what sets effective intervention apart from one-size-fits-all instruction.

Throughout the practicum, trainees receive extensive coaching and support, including live observations, feedback sessions, lesson reviews, and data analysis discussions. By the end of the program, educators will not only know how to deliver the Slant System™ with fidelity, they’ll be equipped to think critically and adaptively, ensuring meaningful progress for every student.

Upon completion of the Foundations Course, Advanced Training, and Practicum, participants are eligible to take the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI) through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI). Passing this exam qualifies participants for certification as a Structured Literacy and Dyslexia Interventionist.

Prerequisites:
To enroll in the Practicum, you must first complete our Structured Literacy Foundations Course and be enrolled in (or have completed within the past 24 months) the Structured Literacy Advanced Training. Not enrolled yet? Consider bundling Foundations & Advanced Training to save $100.
