What is Slant System?

Slant System™ is an explicit, systematic, diagnostic, prescriptive, and multimodal Orton-Gillingham structured literacy intervention for students, combined with a comprehensive literacy training program designed for educators. Slant System™ is particularly effective for struggling readers and those with dyslexia. Our simple approach integrates research-based methods with practical tools for immediate classroom implementation.

Training begins with the Structured Literacy Foundations course, covering the science of reading, dyslexia, an introduction to English language structure, multimodal lesson delivery, planning, and practice. Educators then continue on with Advanced Training to gain a much deeper understanding of English language concepts, guiding a student through all 7 Stages of the Teaching Sequence, and may additionally receive one-on-one real-time coaching through our year-long Practicum to ensure effective classroom application and expertise in designing and implementing lessons for struggling readers.

Accredited by the International Dyslexia Association, Slant System™ is rooted in the science of reading research. This multimodal, systematic, and evidence-based method is especially effective for students with dyslexia and those struggling with reading.

Educators who complete the Structured Literacy Foundations and Advanced Training earn certification as a Slant System™ Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher. Those who also complete the Practicum achieve certification as a Slant System™ Structured Literacy and Dyslexia Specialist.

Certified teachers gain specialized skills in a systematic, sequential, and diagnostic approach to reading instruction, proven effective for nearly 30 years. Originally developed for students with dyslexia, Slant System™ benefits all learners, particularly struggling readers. Graduates of our certification program confidently design and deliver instruction that meets the needs of all students. Teachers and administrators consistently report significant gains in student performance, increased educator confidence, and stronger support in developing IEPs with targeted, meaningful goals.

Our instruction can supplement core reading programs or serve as small-group or one-on-one intervention, building foundational literacy skills in phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Slant System™ training is ideal for K-12 teachers, reading specialists, interventionists, special educators, administrators, and any educator seeking expertise in the Orton-Gillingham structured literacy approach.

We provide the knowledge, skill set, support, and a proven intervention that will serve teachers and students for years to come.

Slant System™ and The Common Core Alignment

As an accredited training program by the International Dyslexia Association, Advanced Training and Practicum equips teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to take the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI). The Challenge

Literacy is a fundamental skill, yet many students, especially those with dyslexia or other reading difficulties, face significant challenges. These struggles are compounded by a critical gap in our education system: many educators lack specialized training in literacy education, leaving them unprepared to support these students effectively.

Struggling Readers

About 20% of people have dyslexia, and two-thirds of US students are reading below a proficient level. Making it critical to use tailored instructional strategies for individuals with reading difficulties.

Teacher Preparedness

Research indicates a substantial percentage of educators feel inadequately trained in literacy instruction, particularly in methods suited for students with reading challenges.

Literacy Statistics

Studies show that a considerable portion of students do not achieve proficiency in reading by the end of elementary school, a concern that has long-term academic and life consequences.

Inclusive Education

Ensuring that literacy education is inclusive and caters to diverse learning needs, including those with dyslexia, is essential but often overlooked in standard curricula.
