Slant System® is an accredited teacher training program and an Orton-Gillingham multimodal structured literacy method of teaching reading, based on the large body of research supporting the structured literacy approach. This method is especially effective for children with dyslexia and those who struggle to read.
In this hands-on and engaging course held over multiple days, participants will be introduced to Multimodal Structured Literacy (MSL) principles and the basics of the Slant System®. Topics will include: • Characteristics of struggling readers and dyslexia • Current research in the most effective reading approaches based on the science of reading • The most up-to-date brain research • Diagnostic assessment procedures • The scope and sequence of the Slant System® • The content, lesson planning, & implementation of a typical lesson • Characteristics of students for whom Slant® is essential • Systematic introduction to language structure, including spelling generalizations, syllable identification, and syllable division strategies
Suggestions for implementing Slant® as Tier 1, 2 and 3 instruction, and groupings will also be discussed. Teachers will be able to immediately implement instruction upon completion of the Structured Literacy Foundations course.
Participants will develop an overall understanding and assessment of dyslexia, an understanding of the Slant System's® Orton-Gillingham multimodal structured literacy approach, learn how to prepare and implement a typical lesson, and gain insight into language structure.
